Man-made Good Weather

Man-made good weather The technology for creating favorable weather conditions for public celebra- tions – cloud dispersal – was developed in Russia in the 1990s «Shooting down» rain clouds is called «seeding» «Seeding» starts an hour and a half before the scheduled event 50-100 km from its geographical location 50-100 km Specially equipped IL-18, AN-26 and AN-12 transport planes are used to disperse clouds: Operating principle*: o pulverized dry ice (2-cm-long pellets of frozen carbon dioxide with a diameter of 1-1.5 cm) is disseminated in the lower cloud layer at Ag an altitude of several thousand meters o the carbon dioxide crystallizes the moisture in the air, after which the doud "cools" and gradually disperses rear of the aircraft- cargo hold - a system for spraying liquid nitrogen Reagents used: silver iodide, crystals of evaporated liquid nitrogen, dry ice, powder of cement, talc or gypsum system to spray silver iodide into the clouds * reference to the use of dry ice Specially-trained pilots wear special protective suits and use oxygen masks Wind Environmental aspect o The reagents used to disperse the douds are environmentally friendly materials and do not harm the atmosphere o The reagents remain in the atmosphere for less than 24 hours. After they enter a cloud, they fall out of it along with any precipitation Targeted geographic location RIANOVOSTI 2011 www.rian.ru ~2-3 km_------ - - -----> Man-made good weather The technology for creating favorable weather conditions for public celebra- tions – cloud dispersal – was developed in Russia in the 1990s «Shooting down» rain clouds is called «seeding» «Seeding» starts an hour and a half before the scheduled event 50-100 km from its geographical location 50-100 km Specially equipped IL-18, AN-26 and AN-12 transport planes are used to disperse clouds: Operating principle*: o pulverized dry ice (2-cm-long pellets of frozen carbon dioxide with a diameter of 1-1.5 cm) is disseminated in the lower cloud layer at Ag an altitude of several thousand meters o the carbon dioxide crystallizes the moisture in the air, after which the doud "cools" and gradually disperses rear of the aircraft- cargo hold - a system for spraying liquid nitrogen Reagents used: silver iodide, crystals of evaporated liquid nitrogen, dry ice, powder of cement, talc or gypsum system to spray silver iodide into the clouds * reference to the use of dry ice Specially-trained pilots wear special protective suits and use oxygen masks Wind Environmental aspect o The reagents used to disperse the douds are environmentally friendly materials and do not harm the atmosphere o The reagents remain in the atmosphere for less than 24 hours.
