How to Drive Safely With 'Man's Best Friend' In the Passenger Seat

How to Drive Safely With 'Man's Best Friend' In the Passenger Seat In all 50 American states, it's illegal to drive with an unrestrained child. Only New Jersey requires that pets be securely in place when riding in a vehicle. Since 2005, pet travel has increased by over 300%. 90% of pet owners regularly operate their vehicles with a dog in the car. 98% of dogs in a moving car aren't properly restrained. 33% of dog owners openly admit to being distracted by their pets while driving. At 35 mph, a 60-pound dog in a car becomes a 2,700-pound projectile. Never allow a dog to ride with its head outside a car window. Dogs must have their own place in a vehicle and shouldn't ride in a driver's lap. Smaller dogs should only travel in crates or travel-safe dog beds. Larger dogs should be kept in place with harnesses linked to a car's safety belt. Robert J.
