Of the 300,000 surgical procedures done in 2010, 75,000 used transvaginal mesh implants. In 2008, the FDA released a Public Health Safety Notification warning people about the complications associated with transvaginal meshs. However, they said complications were rare. In 2011, the FDA updated its 2008 Public Health FDA Safety Notification stating that the risks linked with transvaginal mesh implants were not "rare". These FDA complication warnings came too late and many women had suffered severely. Since 2005, there have been nearly 40,000 lawsuits related to transvaginal mesh complications. Needless to say, something needs to be done about the aforementioned product.
