The Pacific Northwest Stands at a CROSSROADS Widely recognized as a global leader in sustainability, the region now faces the prospect of becoming the primary Global leader in sustainability gateway to Asian markets for massive new quantities of fossil fuels. Gateway to Asian markets for fossil fuel exports Tar sands oil Bakken oil fields Tar sands oil out of Alberta, Canada... Bakken shale oil out of North Dakota... And coal out of Wyoming and Montana Powiler River Basin coal But to get there, unprecedented levels BIG ENERGY COMPANIES of coal, oil, and natural gas would have to move through want to move it all to markets in Asia Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia. Tar sands oil How? Bakken oll flelds Powder River Basin coal An expanded Kinder Morgan pipeline and a new Enbridge pipeline... All to get this coal and oil ... to markets on Thousands of coal trains running through the the far side of the Pacific Ocean. The projects Columbia Gorge, disrupting traffic and spilling would enrich some of the most profitable coal dust along the way... corporations on earth that make money And hundreds more trains carrying volatile selling carbon-intensive fuels that most shale oil, past our neighborhoods, schools, people want to move beyond. and homes.. Poll after poll shows that most Americans want to move past dirty energy sources. But these projects would instead: O Expand fossil fuel markets Fatten large energy corporations O Worsen climate change How carbon-intensive? the equilavent of If all these proposals were to go through, we're talking 5 Keystone XLs But between these... and these... stands us–the thin green line of the Pacific NW Tar sands oil Bakken oil fields British Columbia Washington Oregon Powiler River Basin coal Our choices in the coming years will impact our region's health and safety, while they shape our planet's future.
