OAKLAND RAIDERS HISTORY January 30, 1960 An Oakland group is awarded the former Minneapolis football franchise. February 9, 1960 September 11, 1960 Eddie Erdelatz appointed as first head coach of the Oakland Raiders. The Raiders play their first game against the Houston Oilers, losing 37- 22 at home. JUST WIN BABY January 15, 1963 September 11, 1960 Al Davis named head coach and general manager of RŘaiders. Future Raiders Head Coach Tom Flores throws the first touchdown pass in team history (to halfback Tony Teresa). II February 1, 1965 Construction starts on Oakland Coliseum. January 14, 1968 Raiders appear in Super Bowl II, lose to the Packers 33-14. February 4, 1969 John Madden named Raiders head coach. VI January 9, 1977 September 3, 1975 December 23, 1972 Raiders defeat the Minnesota Vikings 32-14 in Super Bowl XI After 15 years with the team, center Jim Otto is the last original Raider to retire. Steelers defeat Raiders 13-7 when Franco Harris makes controversial "immaculate reception" in final seconds of playoff game. XV HOLLYWOOD January 4, 1979 January 25, 1981 November 22, 1982 John Madden retires from coaching footbal. The Tom Flores era begins. Raiders win Super Bowl XV, beating the Philadelphia Eagles 27-10. After 57-day player strike, Raiders play their first non- preseason home game in Los Angeles. December 18, 1982 Raiders record first million-dollar home league game gate sales in NFL history. XVI- September 3, 1995 The Raiders play first regular season game affer returning to Oakland. January 22, 1984 Raiders win Super Bowl XVIII, beating the Redskins, 38-9.
