History's Most Educated SERIAL KILLERS From the beginning of time, there has been good and evil paired with the ideals that good always triumphs over evil. With these ideals, come many misconceptions about the face of evil, as we all try to place it into a definable bucket that good can easily manage. Unfortunately, the difference between good and evil isn't so black and white, and resting in the gray matter in between lives a variety of things to be feared, including history's most educated serial killers: HERMAN WEB'STER MUDGETT MD A.KA. H.H. HOLME'S May 16, 1861 - May 7. 1896 Medical Doctorate - University of Michigan Medical School 1884 Best known for his Chicago World's Fair Hotel (a.k.a. the Murder Castle). H.H. Holmes lured unsuspecting women to his tourist destination which included gas chambers, embalming rooms, and laundary chutes to an incinerator to hide the evidence. He confessed to 27 murders, 9 of which were confirmed TED KACZYN'SKI. PHD May 22, 1942 - Present PhD Mathematics - Undergrad at Harvard PhD at University of Michigan 1965 Best known as the Unabomber, Ted Kaczynski went on a 20 year mail bombing spree that led to his life-time incarceration at ADS Florence. Kaczynski was a child prodigy who entered Harvard University at age 16, went on to earn his PhD, and became an assistant professor at the Univer- sity of California, Berkeley at the young age of 25 He was convicted of killing 3 and injuring 23 victims TED BUNDY November 24. 1946 - January 24, 1989 Undergrad at the University of Washington and University of Utah Law School drop out Graduate school at Puget Sound University Law School Undergrad 1972, dropped out of Graduate school. Bundy's 4 year reign of terror began in the Seattle area of Washington in 1974. Known for his charm and intel- lect. Bundy easily lured women to their deaths shortly after dropping out of the University of Puget Sound Law School. He confessed to 30 murders, though estimates range from 26 to over 100 MARYBETH TIINNING September 11, 1942 to Present Nurse - On the Job Training in Nursing at Ellis Hospital Though not formally educated at a college or university. Marybeth Tinning gained on the job training in the medical field as a nurse assistant. She later used her knowledge of medical health to kill her 8 children and pass the deaths off as varying syndromes. While currently convicted for i murder, she is suspected of killing 8 children HAROLD FREDERICK "FRED" SHIMAN MD January 14. 1946 - January 13, 2004 Medical Doctorate - Leeds School of Medicine 1970 As the only British doctor ever found guilty of murdering his patients, Shipman became the object of suspicion after a large number of his elderly patients died and were cremated under his demand. This general practitioner received a full scholarship to medical school due to his high intellect and scholastic performance. He was convicted of 15 murders, though 218 murders were positively ascribed to him RANDY STEVEN KRAFT March 19, 1945 to Present BA in Economics - Claremont McKenna College 1968 An ROTC college graduate. Randy Kraft joined the uS. Air Force in 1968. He achieved high security clearances because of this impressive scores on aptitude tests. Police believe his first victim was Wayne Joseph Dukete around September 20, 1971 He was convicted of 16 murders, but is suspected of 51 others RODNEY ALCALA August 23, 1943 to Present BA in Fine Arts - UCLA School of Fine Arts 1968 After graduating from UCLA in 1968, Alcala went on to attend NYU Film school where he studied under Roman Polanski. In 1978. midway through his murder spree, he appeared on the TV Show, the Dating Game, an experience which led him to be dubbed the "Dating Game Killer by media and others during his 1980 trial and conviction. He has been convicted for 5 murders, but has likely killed others. ANDRIY ROMANOVYCH CHIKATI.LO October 16, 1936 to Febraury 14. 1994 Teaching Certificate in Russian Literature -Rostov University 1971 Chikatilo's teaching career lasted a little over 9 years, but came to an end after too many complaints of child molestation were made against him by his students. This socially awkward teacher excelled in school, but could not escape his traumatic past and soon became known as the Butcher of Rostov. While convicted of murdering 53 women and children, it is likely more were killed. Sources:
