THE UK FOOD INDUSTRY By Numbers This infographic will display the economic, social and environmental effects of what we eat. All of the statistics shown come from the Food Statistics Pocketbook 2014 created by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. The agri-food sector added £96.9 billion or 7.1% to the Gross Value Added in 2012. THE ECONOMY £5.3 billion Beverages contributed National Employment 77% 13% Alcohol contributed 77% of total beverages. The sector contributed 13% or 3.6 million of national employment in 2013. Five times as much food waste was recycled in 2012 compared to 2007. ENVIRONMENT & WASTE Each year Food and drink waste in the UK is around 15 million tonnes or £470 In 2012, CO2 emmisions from the food and drink industry fell by worth of food per household. on 2011 '2.2% 18% Food prices have risen since 2007.
