RETAIL HOLIDAY HIRING SNAPSHOT 'TIS THE SEASON FOR HO-HO-HOLIDAY HIRING U.S. RETAILERS HOPING TO DELIVER ALL-CHANNEL EXPERIENCES THAT KEEP REGISTER BELLS RINGING. Nothing says the holidays have arrived like the hustle and bustle of seasonal employees. As today's all-channel shopping journey continues to evolve, retailers will rely upon many of these seasonal workers to help them overcome the new challenges presented by today's all-channel shopper. To better understand retailers' hiring plans and workforce priorities this holiday season, RedPrairie conducted the Holiday Hiring Snapshot, a survey of 250 U.S. retail executives across big box, specialty, grocery, convenience store and food service sectors. Here's what we found: ACHIEVING AN INCREASING ENTERPRISE-WIDE VIEW CONVERSION RATE OF LABOR ACROSS AND BASKET SIZE STORES, DCs, All-channel consistency is key for the majority of respondents. 59% of retailers say delivering a consistent customer experience across all touchpoints is the #1 priority during the holidays. IN-TRANSIT, ETC 59.2% 15.2% 4.8% 16.4% 4.4% OPTIMIZING LABOR PROVIDINGA SPEND TO CUSTOMER CONSISTENT CUSTOMER DEMAND OTHER EXPERIENCE ACROSS ALL TOUCHPOINTS NO 44.4% YES 55.6% Do retailers rely on holiday hiring to help meet the needs of the all-channel shopper? Definitely: 56% will hire seasonal employees this holiday season. WILL HIRE MORE EMPLOYEES IN 2012 28.5% And they are taking the challenge seriously. 29% of retailers will hire more seasonal workers than WILL HIRE FEWER EMPLOYEES IN 2012 10% they hired in 2011. 2012 SEASONAL 61.4% HIRING TO STAY THE SAME AS 2OI 39% 33.9% 4 Customer service in December 15.1% is often a numbers retailers are doubling down on seasonal investments, as 39% indicate that December will game, and 9.2% 2.8% see the most seasonal staffers on the clock.
