THE EVOLUTION OF RUNNING SHOES 1898 saucony Saucony Shoe Manufacturing became the very first shoe company. By 191O, they were making up to 800 shoes a day. 1938 Reebok A Rebook created their first running shoe for competitive runners. 1960 PUMA Puma was the first company to bond the sole and the body of running shoes together. AB new balance New Balance released the first running shoe available in different widths later that same year. 1971 Blue Ribbon Sports released their first running shoe "the Nike." 1978 NIKE Blue Ribbon Sports became Nike, Inc. and they created the first Air-Sole shoes. 1982 Reebok A Reebok released the first woman specific running shoe called "the Freestyle." 1988 adidas Adidas released the TORSION sole system which they still use. 2004 NIKE The first Nike Free was released and appealed to runners and non-runners alike. vibram Vibram released the FiveFingers shoe that are meant to fit the foot like a glove. 2006 NIKE Nike and Apple teamed up to produce the Nike+ system that was the first in-shoe technology to sync with popular tech devices and track physical activity.
