The M54/A5 may be the gateway to Wales from Shropshire, but the road has proven to be a death-trap for a minority of motorists. With the higher speeds involved, it's of little surprise that the total number of accidents on this artery far outweighs any other road in the county, with a staggering 203 incidents in the three years until 2014, accounting for nearly 300 injuries or deaths. With 131 non-fatal accidents in the same period, resulting in injury to over 150 people, this road by far carries the highest chance of being involved in a road accident in Shropshire ROAD ACCIDENT FATALITIES: A CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER One life lost on the road is one too many, so the occurrence of fatal accidents on the A41, A442 and A458 in Shropshire should send a powerful message to motorists about the need to exercise caution at all times. 12 fatal accidents on these roads, which caused the deaths or injuries to 23 travellers, are a warning to all drivers: scenic beauty often conceals the perils of modern roads. While this doesn't mean motorists should be any less attentive when navigating the stretch between Market Drayton and Shrewsbury, the data does suggest the A53 is rts.
