JOIE de VIVRE LASER AND MEDICAL SPA The weather outside may be dry and frightful, but your skin doesn't have to be! Learn how to keep skin smooth and moisturized all winter long with these winter skin care tips from Joie de Vivre Medical Spa. START MOISTURIZING FROM THE INSIDE OUT AAAA AAAA oz oz OZ 12 12 12 12 12 oz oz oz oz oz oz oz Eight 8 oz glasses are roughly equal to: - Five 12 oz bottles of water Happy, hydrated skin begins by drinking the recommended - Three 20 oz bottles of water - Two I Liter bottles of water eight 8 ounce glasses of water per day. WHY 8 GLASSES? The Institute of Medicine determined that the adequate intake of liquids for women per day is about 2.2 liters. "Eight 8 ounce glasses" is an easy way to remember to get all your fluids! HOME SPA QUICK TIP: Like flavored water? Slice a lime and cucumber, and add it to a gallon of water in your fridge. Enjoy refreshing, natural and lightly flavored water for up to seven days! NEXT, PREPARE YOUR SKIN THROUGH EXFOLIATION! Exfoliating helps keep the top layer of skin as fresh as possible and ready to absorb product. Check the ingredients! MYTH! Harsh, beaded products are the best way to exfoliate. Look for the words glycolic or glycerin and ingredients like green tea or Vitamin C. FACT! Grainy products cause broken capillaríes and fragile skin. Instead, use exfoliating ingredients to promote dermal freshness. Make gentle exfoliation a part of your daily routine, or use a corrective Epionce mask three times a week to infuse moisture. HOME SPA QUICK TIP: Keep lips smooth and free of dry skin in three easy steps: 3 At night, use a rich, emollient lip balm. Apply just before bed. In the AM, gently run a Q-tip over your lips to quickly remove any dead or loose skin. Reapply a moisturizing lip balm. Always carry a lip balm like Colorescience Lipshine with SPF to keep lips protected throughout the day. FINALLY, MOISTURIZE SKIN FROM THE OUTSIDE IN Moisturizer is important year-round, and particularly in winter when skin is extra dry from the elements. Your skin needs moisture twice a day, once in the morning, and once at night. SPF 30 Apply a generous layer of moisturizing, broad-spectrum sunscreen of at least 30. A rich and emollient night cream repairs skin overnight. Use an ultra-hydrating repair crème with Vitamin C and anti-oxidants like a hydrating repair crème from Vital C. Why 30? The Skin Cancer Foundation recommends an SPF of at least 30, and no more than 50, because higher SPFS offer only a minimal increase in protection, and usually only in UVB and not UVA protection. DAY TIP! Winter sun + snow glare can be extremely damaging to skin! Remember to apply sunscreen even if you spend most of your time indoors, as windows do not filter harmful UV rays. NIGHT TIP! Your mom and grandma's standby moisturizer, petroleum jelly, is still a great and inexpensive way to soothe dry skin problem areas like elbows and knees. Apply a thin layer five minutes after you shower.
