How much should you pay an apprentice? - The National Minimum Wage for apprentices is currently £2.73 p\h Average salary for apprentices is £170 plw Who pays for their training? The government, you only pay their salary. lil Are there any grants available?. YES There are grants available to employers who hire apprentices. The CITB offer a grant to help with apprentice training of up to £10,250, for companies registered with them. The National Apprenticeship Service offers a grant of £1500 to companies that: Have not employed an apprentice in the last 12months Have less than 50 employees Want to employ an apprentice who is between 16-24 years old IMPORTANT: Registering your apprentice with a college does not automatically mean you will receive a grant. They need to be regis- tered with a work-based training provider. "You can apply directly for funding to cover an apprentices training if you are providing their formal training. However, usually this is done by a training organisation like the CITB. The apprenticeship levy explained Companies with paybills in excess of £3million will pay a 0.5% levy, which will be used to fund apprenticeships. Employers will receive an allowance of 15% to offset against the levy. WORK SAFE Will your insurer cover apprentices being on-site? Probably and at no extra cost. Although you will need check with your insurer for details.
