WHITETAIL DEER Funting Tips 1. STAKE OUT GOOD FOOD SOURCES Whitetails eat 10+ pounds of food daily • Beechnut, acorns, fruits, and corn preferred Food sources with thick cover attract deer 2. WAIT BY CROWDED ESCAPE ROUTES • Whitetails escape predators by running Common escape routes are narrow ditches and rows of covers • Hunt near these confined areas 3. READ THE WIND Keep journal of wind conditions in stands to see patterns Blow bubbles to judge wind speed and trajectory through terrain Determine potential effect on bullet, bolt, or arrow 4. DO YOUR HOMEWORK • Learn whitetail tendencies in your hunting area • Brush up on basic rut habits • Find out when deer are most active 5.
