тOZ LPED What to Expect PECFD EDFCZP DURING AN EYE EXAM Eye Exams Step-by-Step BASIC EYE EXAMS HAV E 7 PARTS: 1. Medical History Review history of eye and vision complaints, if any, along with full understanding of work environment and how it impacts the patient Check for medical conditions that can impact vision or be manifested in the eye (i.e. diabetes, hypertension, thyroid) and investigate all medications taken by prescription or over the counter. Preliminary testing that includes Visual Fields Screening using automated technology, auto refraction, measuring the shape of the eye, and wavefront scanning of the visual system to provide data about the smallest imperfections of the optical system. Assessment of the patient's ability to use both eyes together, the pupils' responses, eye movement, and the ability for both eyes to function together to reach the peak function of stereo vision. Visual Acuity Testing without correction, with presenting correction, and with the latest correction measured by refraction utilizing objective and subjective measurements. Instilling eye drops to enlarge the pupil size for a more comprehensive exam of the retina. • Looking for any retinal tears, holes, or other abnormalities of the macula and the rest of the retina. The optic nerve disc and underlying blood vessels are also examined. A second round of a Bio-microscopy examination of the lens to check for any early signs of cataract is performed after the pupils are dilated as well. ADDITIONAL TESTING: Many other tests may be requested to acquire more data if needed, including OCT (Ocular Coherence Tomography), Corneal Thickness, Threshold Visual Fields, Retinal Photography, Anterior Segment Photography, B-Scan Ultrasound (especially if a patient complains about sudden floaters), and VEP, a test that involves acquiring and analyzing brain waves resulting from vision. Finally, a diagnosis is made and a treatment plan is presented, along with answering any questions the patient may have. The last step is to set up a follow-up plan.
