Sexual assault in the military happens more often than you think. It’s an unfortunate fact, but it’s true: 80,000 sexual assaults were reported between the years 2006-2012. http://www.socialworkd... egreecenter.com/ has created an infographic entitled “The War Within: Sexual Abuse in the Military” detailing how sexual abuse in the military has reached epidemic proportions. While 80,000 sexual assaults in a six year span seems disturbing, between 2010 and 2012, the number of sexual assaults, both reported and non-reported, shot up by 34%. In 2012, 6.1 percent of women reported having unwanted sexual contact, along with 1.2 percent of men. Of the 26,000 sexual assaults that occurred during 2012, only 3,374 were reported, and only 238 were convicted. This infographic also explains the two ways the military allows its personnel to file reports, and just how many of each type of report are filed every year. 35 percent of offenses reported were abusive and wrongful sexual contact, 28 percent were aggravated sexual assault and sexual assault, and 27 percent of reported offenses was rape. This infographic also covers the reasons why sexual assaults are not reported. 70 percent of respondents said that they did not want anyone else to know, 66 percent said they felt uncomfortable making a report, and 51 percent thought that their report would not remain confidential. Feel free to like, comment, and share this infographic from http://www.socialworkdegreecenter.com/ entitled “The War Within: Sexual Abuse in the Military”.
