THE CYCLE OF POVERTY Plan Poverty is passed from one generation to the next. Poverty begins in childhood when babies are born to poor, malnourished mothers. Because they are born in to families that are poor, these children have: Less access to food, safe water, healthcare, and school Low family income Hunger, poor sanitation, lack of education Depleted and unskilled workforce, unemployment Few work opportunities, disease, malnutrition, even death Breaking this cycle begins with investing in children. Last year alone we improved the lives of children in these key areas: 24 WATER & SANITATION ECONOMIC SECURITY CHILD PROTECTION & PARTICIPACTION EDUCATION HEALTH Plan built 1,723 schools and trained Plan built 1,283 health centers and trained 175,886 health workers. Plan set up over 5,804 water points and improved the sanitation facilities of 122,297 households.
