The Solar Demand

THE SOLAR DEMAND Solar power is on the rise in the U.S. and across the world. Currently Solar energy is the fastest growing segment in the renewable energy market in the U.S. STATS ON THE SOLAR INDUSTRY JOBS 2.3 143,000 20% MILLION JOBS GLOBALLY PEOPLE IN THE U.S. EMPLOYED BY THE SOLAR INDUSTRY GROWTH EACH YEAR In 2013 the global solar The solar industry currently has the fastest job growth in the U.S. Growing more than industry job market doubled. 50% since 2010. USAGE GROWTH U.S. TOTAL SOLAR CAPACITY In 2010 In February 2014 An increase of over 2,326 12,057 418% MEGAWATTS MEGAWATTS Despite the current growth solar energy only represents about 1% of the U.S.'s energy production, leaving plenty of room for more growth. SOLAR'S RISE TO POPULARITY WHO IS FUELING THE GROWTH? GOVERNMENT 6 The Interior Department is on pace to permit enough solar projects on public land to power: MILLION HOMES BY 2020 The Defense Department announced in April of 2014 that construction would begin on a 20-megawatt project on Fort Huachuca in Arizona. Once completed the solar array will provide 25% of the bases electrical needs. In April of 2014 the Energy Department announced the Solar Market Pathways program. Ș15 Designed to help state, tribal and local leaders develop multiyear deployment plans. MILLION PRIVATE CORPORATIONS 84 Apple owns two 100-acre solar arrays in North Carolina that each produce: MILLION KILOWATT- HOURS/YEAR 15-30% Walmart currently has solar systems installed on 250 stores, and pledged to double the number of solar projects at its facilities by 2020. OF STORES ELECTRICAL NEEDS 30% Google installed a solar array on the Mountain View campus in 2007. The array currently has a capacity of I.9 megawatts and has offered a ȘI million PEAK ELECTRICAL dollar prize to help bring solar to more U.S. homes. NEEDS 40% Kohl's has solar power systems in use at different 156 stores. OF EACH STORE POWERS 14 Staples operates 37 solar arrays across the U.S. MEGAWATTS CONSUMERS $I Solar3D's residential division sales in 2014. MILLION PER MONTH In 2013, California homes had a total of 1,000 megawatts of capacity installed on rooftops, doubling the state's residential capacity. It took 30 years for California to reach the first 1,000 megawatts. AHAHAH In the third quarter of 2013 31,000 homes had new photovoltaic systems installed. AMAHAN AHAHAH 49% increase in the number of systems installed the U.S. in 2012. WHY IS THE GROWTH OCCURRING? COSTS 60% decline in the cost of solar panels since 2011 50% decline in the cost of a solar photovoltaic system since 2010 CREDITS AND POLICIES INVESTMENT 30% rebate for solar systems installed on commercial and residential properties. TAX CREDIT By 2020 the initiative's goal is to reach a total cost of $.06 SUNSHOT per kilowatt-hour. The initiative launched in 2011 and since then they have made it 60% of the way to their goal. INITIATIVE Solar could supply 14% of the U.S. energy needs by 2030 and 27% by 2050. WHERE IS THE GROWTH OCCURRING?
