A Snapshot of Pro-Ana Communities and Their Desire for Thinspiration

A Hunger for Belonging A SNAPSHOT OF PRO-ANA COMMUNITIES AND THEIR DESIRE FOR THINSPIRATION Pro-anorexia (or pro-ana) content serves to promote the eating disorder anorexia nervosa. Pro-ana organizations have adopted different stances. Some claim to be non-judgmental environments offering 24-hour support to anorexics, while others go as far as to claim that anorexia is a lifestyle choice. Pro-ana content has appeared on social media sites like Tumblr and Instagram and online blogs such as Livejournal. Many sites feature thinspiration (or thinspo) content that displays images of underweight celebrities and models intended to trigger eating disorders.
