Setting Up Your First Art Exhibit

Setting Up Your First Art Exhibit You know you've been dreaming of having your very own art exhibit since the day you realized how much people appreciate your artworks. You know you want to start it. Why not start planning now? Here is a 3- month planning schedule which may help you: 1st Month The first month will be focused on picturing out your exhibit. Choosing a Theme 1. List down all possible themes that you may use. 2. Narrow down your options and choose your top themes from your list. Select art- works based on this. 3. Finalize your theme by coming up with a definite title for your exhibit. Make sure that the title will give people a picture of what they will see on your exhibit. 4. Create a tagline. This will go with the ti- tle and give "supporting details" which will help boost your exhibit. Finding the Right Location 1. Think about how much space you'll need. Do some research online and by asking other people where you can find a special venue for your very first art gallery exhibit. 2. List down all feasible venues. 3. Finalize your choice. Make sure that the venue is convenient, accessible, and an appropriate place to display your artwork. Make sure that you consider your audience too. Make sure the place will not be difficult to find. Finalizing the Schedule 1. Set a date for your exhibit. Make sure everything will be finished and ready by then. 2. Do some research. Do not choose any day you like and do not just choose a day just because it is a weekend or a holiday. Make sure that you won't bump into big events or other potential competitors. It will be better if you and the artists that will join you will be the only ones with a special event on that certain day. 3. Make sure that your set date will be final. It will be a hassle if you will change it on the last minute. Go Solo or Collaborate? 1. Decide whether you will have the exhibit on your own or you will bring some friends with you. 2. If you go solo, make sure that you can handle everything singlehandedly. If not, you can ask help from other artists. Collaborating with other creative minds can also bring more people to the exhibit. 3. You can contact an established artist or you can simply contact a fellow artist who also wants to have their first art exhibit. You can help each other make your dream art fair. 2nd Month Consider your budget for all the possible expenses. Budget 1. After all the planning, you have to raise funds for the event. %24 • Reservation of Venue- you need to allot enough money for you to be able to rent the place for the event. • Materials needed- you will need materials or props to decorate the place. You also need tools to hang your artworks. If the reservation of the venue includes decorating/ design services, better but you will still need to include this in your budget. %24 %24 • Artist Payment- Consider the price for the artist's fee. Not all artists will volunteer for a free exhibit. Some may ask for fees you can't afford yet. • Promotional Materials- you will need to allocate part of your budget for promoting the event. You may need to print posters, flyers and other printed materials to let people know about the exhibit. 2. The most important thing that you need to know is that you can overestimate the budget for your exhibit. You should never underestimate your budget. 3rd Month It will be better if you can promote your exhibit for at least a month. Effective promotions will help you have a successful exhibit. Promotions 1. Printed Materials - this will be one of the most effective ways to promote your exhibit. Here are some of the most common and effective prints that you should get hold of: • Flyers - These are easy-to-print and easy-to-give- away so if you are planning to personally promote your event, you may want to print some flyers. • Posters - You may want to print some posters if you want to use the "to see is to believe" strategy. You can design a poster using your own artwork and post the details of your event. • Canvas Prints -Since you are an artist, you may want to let people get a glimpse of a sample of your work. Canvas prints will be the best tool to use if you really want people to check out your artworks. If they see a sample and appreciate it, they will likely go to your exhibit. 2. Social Media- There are approximately 1.11 billion monthly active users monthly. Twitter has over 550 million. Why don't you use Social Media's popularity to your benefit and start promoting your exhibit online? (Source: http://newsroom.fb.com/Key-Facts ; http:// www.statisticbrain.com/twitter-statistics/) 3. Word-of-mouth- This may be the most old- fashioned and most traditional way to promote an event. However, no matter how old it gets, it never fails to bring success. You can tell your friends about the event and let them share it with their family and other people they know Now, you are ready to start your art gallery. Make sure to prepare everything and always have a back- up plan with you so you will be ready if something unexpected came up. Have a successful art exhibit! Good luck! UPrinting.
