SACRIFICING SLEEP FOR STUDY Part Four: Tips for Getting to Sleep 90 minutes before bed: Cool down. Take a shower or bath. Heating the body then gradually cooling helps the body relax. Set the room temperature to around 60 degrees Fahrenheit. 60 minutes before bed: Unplug. Turn off the TV, computer, tablet, etc. Get rid of distractions, especially those with a strong light source. 30 minutes before bed: Relax. Listen to soft music or read a book by a soft light. Bedtime: get to sleep. Practice deep breathing and progressive muscle relaxation as you try to fall asleep.
