Drop-side models figured in many of the recalls in which missing or loose hardware caused the drop-side to separate from the crib, creating a gap in which a baby can become trapped or strangle. "There are enough concerns raised about drop-side cribs that we're moving forward and we're going to phase them out," Storch said in the Wall Street Journal interview. Bisphenol A is used primarily to make plastics, and in the most common form of polycarbonate plastic. Polycarbonate plastic, which is clear and nearly shatter-proof, is used to make a variety of common products including baby and water bottles, sports equipment, medical and dental devices, dental fillings and sealants, eyeglass lenses, CDs and DVDS, and household electronics. The FDA has shifted its stance on bisphenol A (BPA) and said that exposure to the chemical is of "some concern" for infants and children. Previously, the agency's stance was the chemical posed no risk to humans. FDA officials have now declared that more research is needed and suggested reasonable steps to reduce exposure to BPA. The Japanese industry voluntarily removed BPA from can linings 10 years ago and thus, were able to reduce exposure to BPA by 50 percent. types of recalls i Since 2008, Babies'R' Us has been selling all BPA free bottles and feeding products There are two different types of recalls, voluntary and mandatory. A voluntary recall is when the company voluntarily offers to buy back a product or fix it. There may or may not be a direct danger in using the product. A mandatory recall means the company has been ordered to remove it from the shelf. lead Childhood lead poisoning remains a major environmental health problem in the United States. what to do if you have a recalled product If something you own has been recalled, do not panic. Just follow the directions and let the company take care of you. If you find something wrong with a product, be sure to let the company know. You may not be the only person experiencing that problem. You may also want to go back to the retailer that you bought it from. They will often have recall information, with instructions on what to do next.
