K & MAUTO SERVICE www.kandmautoservice.com SEASONAL AUTOMOTIVE T'PS Brought to you by K&M Auto Service WINTER Replace windshield wipers If there's heavy rain in the fall, wiper blades might need to be replaced Check windshield washer fluid Pack emergency road kit Emergency Flares, flashlight, extra oil, antifreeze, blankets, drinking As it gets wetter, the water thrown up from the ground gets dirtier and causes buildup on the windshield water, food, warm clothes Check your antifreeze Ensure the fluid levels are adequate to prevent freezing Check your oil Do this monthly Tire checks Check the tire tread, tire pressure Inspect your brakes Bad breaks can cause accidents Have studded tires installed and avoid an accident from worn tires Studded tires are great for winter driving and can help with traction in in winter driving conditions snow and ice SPRING Check belts Fix windows that are stuck in the up position As weather warms up, you'll want your Belts run your engine, check them for cracks to ensure they aren't about to break windows to roll down Use a high-quality gas treatment It will clean fuel injectors and help with gas mileage Check fluids Check oil (again), check coolant level Check shocks and struts Remove studded tires Winter weather causes a lot of pot- holes which creates bumpy rides and can be harsh on your shocks Once winter is over, studded tires aren't needed and become illegal at some point summer Check your air conditioning You don't want to be stuck in traffic on a 100 degree day when you realize your AC isn't working Replace windshield wipers Spring weather can be hard on wiper blades so replace them when the weather gets nice. You'll want them for random rainstorms Replace air filter Replace air filter to ensure clean, smooth airflow. Also helps keep gas mileage high FLUSH Radiator flush Coolant doesn't last forever and Check your brakes Check rotors and brake pads to ensure the brakes are still in can corrode the inside of your radiator. Have it flushed Tire checks Check the tire tread, tire good shape pressure and avoid an accident from worn tires Check your battery Check for corrosion and age of battery (replace at least every 5 years) FALL Check your spare tire Don't forget about your spare tire. Check tire pressure and make sure you have all the tools for changing a tire on the side of the road Get a pressure test on your cooling system This will check for leaks or cracks in your colant system, which keeps your car from overheating and freezing Check the heater/defroster Check air filter After months of not being used, the heater and defroster can stop working, but you'll want them for the cold weather Dirt gets stirred up during the dry summer and can quickly clog your air filter. Replace if necessary Check Your Headlights It starts getting darker earlier and more driving will be done in the dark. Ensure headlights and brake lights work to avoid dangerous situations or tickets Check antifreeze levels Check tire pressure Tire pressure fluctuates with outside temperature - For every 10 degree change in temp, tire pressure changes by Ipsi Hot weather can cause the radiator to lose fluid so you'll want to ensure that the antifreeze levels Check your battery Heat from the summer can cause the battery fluid to evaporate and corrosion on the posts.
