PET WASTE SOLUTIONS There are over 77 million : dogs in households across About 4,000 tons of dog poop is produced a day! the Ünited States. Pet waste contains bacteria and, if not properly picked up, can become a major health issue! The Do's and The Don'ts Throw waste in the trash if your municipality allows it, some towns have special disposal requirements. Don't leave dog's waste deposits near the curb, for they could get washed into local storm sewers, and then into local waterways spreading pathogens. Flush it away. One of the best ways to dispose of dog poop is by flushing it down the toilet. Don't leave your dog's waste on your lawn, the pathogens in the poop are dangerous to children who may play on the lawn. Bury it in your yard. It's a natural solution, just make sure to'check your water table levels. If it's too high it could get into groundwater. Don't add the dog waste to a composite pile; the pile will not get hot enough to kill the pathogens. Install an underground pet waste digester. It works like a smal septic system except for your pets, and is inexpensive.
