The deadliest day in law enforcement history was September 11, 2001. 72 officers died in the terrorist attacks. NY T The state with the fewest deaths is Vermont, with 22. Texas has lost 1,653 officers -- more than any other state. THE NATIONAL LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS MEMORIAL IN WASHINGTON D.C. Every officer who died in the line of duty is carved on two large marble walls. New names are added each spring.
