NOT JUST CO KING Skills students learn during a culinary arts course There is way more to being a Chef than cooking. This infographic gives an overview of what good culinary art schools teach. Some of these skills seem obvious, and some might surprise you. But each one of them forms an essential ingredient for creating a successful career recipe. THE OBVIOUS BASICS Basic Techniques Students in culinary arts study the basics of cooking – from smelling flavours to chopping julienne to what colour each spice produces. Techniques for meat, fish and vegetable preparation Each of these is a different science. Knowledge of how each recipe came to be certainly helps students appreciate the dish a lot more. Visits to Production Sites Students are helped to understand how the ingredients they use in cooking are actually made and processed by visiting the manufacturing units where they are produced. Products and Raw Materials Culinary schools train students in the art of picking the right raw materials from the right place at the right time. Business Management In order to prepare chefs for the real world, students learn how to manage finances, market their services and manage cooks. Learning from the Masters Students at a culinary school are constantly allowed to interact with guest chefs. Learning from experts will not only give students confidence but they can gain some culinary secrets, as well! As you can see, a culinary student needs to be skilled in more than one area.
