SYRIAN UPRISING 1 YEAR IN NUMBERS March 2011-ongoing On a wall in the town of Daraa in the south of a corrupt and totalitarian Syria, 15 kids wrote these words: THE PEOPLE WANT THE REGIME TO FALI- Under the order of the government, these children (all under 17) were thrown in jail, stunning the town and country. Suddenly Syria got its first strong taste of rebellion in the Arab Spring. On March 15, 2011, simultaneous demonstrations took place in major cities across Syria calling for an end to this regime. One year later, these are the numbers... 446 tortured to death "The family of Hamza Ali al-Khateeb, a 13-year-old Syrian boy tortured and mutilated by President Bashar Assad's forces, has posted a video of his corpse online that shows cuts, gashes..burns..bullet wounds..jaw and kneecaps shattered..and his penis chopped off." - NY Times 676 802 women killed children killed "Zainab had been decapitated, her "Syrian security forces have killed, arrested, and tortured children in their homes, their schools, or on the streets.
