We can hardly believe that four time Emmy-winning show Mad Men has reached it’s final episode! What will we do without Don Draper in our lives?! Originally set in the 1960’s Mad Men became famous ...
for not only outstanding acting and dramatic storylines but also it’s hyper-real historic look back at America during the 60’s and 70’s. It charted major events such as the death of Marilyn Monroe, J.F. Kennedy’s assassination, the Vietnam War and the rise of The Beatles and deftly tackled how this affected and influenced society. Another major subject that the acclaimed show tackled was the role of women and how they climbed up the social and career ladders. This was predominantly communicated through the main characters of the show: Peggy Olson, Joan Holloway and Betty Francis. The series was an insightful look into how women were treated in both professional and personal environments and reminds us that the inequality of the 60’s was really not that long ago.
Director Matthew Weiner also focused heavily on outstanding costume and interior design which really allows the reader to step back in time to the swinging 60’s. Fashion and beauty are the main devices he uses to reflect the transition from the early 1960’s to the 1970’s.
To celebrate the end of what has been a revolutionary show STYLIGHT have created profiles of the main five characters which reveal their dual personalities and delve into the hidden facts that you may not have known.
