NATURAL DISASTERS Whats Your Risk? Midwest Southeast Central Northeast Northwest Southwest Natural Disaster Risk by Region: The Midwest & Great Plains regions are known for the "Tornado Alley", which extends from lowa and North Dakota all the way & Central: down to Texas and Louisiana. Flooding is also a large area of Midwest concern for residents in the Midwest, as this occurs mostly during the Spring and Summer months. Northeast: The Northeast is prone to severe winter weather, as well as flooding. These storms can shut down travel and also cause power outages and heavy ice and snow. Anybody living in this region will always want to have an emergency kit on hand. Southeast: Any states that border the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Mexico are very susceptible to hurricane activity. The hurricane season for the Southeast is between June 1st and November 30th. North & The states on the West Coast are known for earthquakes as well as forest fires. Because the San Andreas Fault is Southwest: along that area, even earthquakes with not much strength can do damage. As for forest fires,it is one of the biggest risks for West Coast residents.
