MARKETING CLIENT DEMOGRAPHICS There are many types of marketing clients and some are great to work with and some, not so much. You know are! Everyone has a different way of working and it's easy to start to identify types of people and the benefits and difficulties in working with them. We love all our clients and in the end, it is all about managing who you those relationships and understanding what it will take for everyone to move in the right direction. We should all have the same goal which is to increase brand awareness, increase company profitability and embrace all the channels to do so. 1. KNOW IT ALL "I know that guy." This person has a connection to everything you suggest as well as a personal experience no matter what it is with. Often times it is to make themselves seem more important and on trend. Annoying as it may be, this client can be a blessing in disguise as you can push through some interesting, innovative work. They want to seem current so your advanced ideas will be more easily embraced. INVOLVEMENT EASY TO WORK AMOUNT OF REVISIONS MARKETING SAVVY 2.COPY CAT "Have you seen this cool thing so and so is doing?" “Can we do an app like this?"This marketing client wants to do what everyone else is doing. The don't understand to do something different or to do something better will most likely get them more attention than merely branded the same deliverable. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery to your competitors for sure. INVOLVEMENT EASY TO WORK AMOUNT OF REVISIONS MARKETING SAVVY 3.FLIP-FLOPPER This type of client can be extremely frustrating because although they may like everything, which is good, they are unable to make a decision on one direction or another. Sometimes they will go back and forth until you force them to make a choice with your scope change costs. INVOLVEMENT EASY TO WORK AMOUNT OF REVISIONS MARKETING SAVVY 4.DIY "I only need you to build my website, I already have done my own logo, brochures and business cards."This client likes to do a lot of the work themselves were they can. These jobs can both be good and bad. They are good if the person is marketing savvy and truly sees it as a partnership. If they are not, they may provide you with materials that make it impossible for you to do your best work. INVOLVEMENT EASY TO WORK AMOUNT OF REVISIONS MARKETING SAVVY 5. SHOW ME ANOTHER A client like this will make you work from your money. You will be making many, many revisions just so the client can see all the options rather than trusting that what you bring to the table is in your marketing experience, the best option. Once in a great while you will end up back where you started, proving your expertise and gaining trust. Thus curing the "Show Me Another" client of bad habits that stunt creativity. INVOLVEMENT EASY TO WORK AMOUNT OF REVISIONS MARKETING SAVVY 6.CONDUCTOR This client is all hands on deck. They want to be involved in every step of the process from the pantone color to the website title tags. They watch things move from group to group and make sure everything is moving right along schedule. A client like this is easy to engage with because they know everything that is happening. Bad part can be not having as much space as you would like to follow your own internal processes. INVOLVEMENT EASY TO WORK AMOUNT OF REVISIONS MARKETING SAVVY 1. BUDDHA "Can't we all get along!"This marketing client type is all about the kumbayas. They want teamwork and togetherness, which can be very collaborative and beneficial to success. A major negative can be that too many voices are heard and can inhibit progress. You know the old adage “Too many cooks spoil the broth."
