Isopleth maps differ from choropleth maps in that the data is not grouped to a predefined region like a state or country. Temperature, for example, works better as an isopleth map than a choropleth map because temperature is continuous but does not change abruptly at any point.
Isopleth maps also require a large amount of data for accurate drawing.
