Get The Step-By-Step Process Here's the Lowdown on Waterproofing Your Basement Discharge Line 5 Wall Mira Drain Sump Pump Weep holes 1 Floor 3 Footer Total Excavation: The inside of the basement can be waterproofed from inside drains. This is done by opening the floor around the perimeter, digging a trench and installing a pipe and gravel around the footer outline. In the hollow cavity of each CMU (concrete masonry units) weep holes 1/2" to 3/4 in diameter will be drilled to release trapped water. Interior Drainage Systems: The exterior walls are opened by hand and inspected for water that could enter. The cracks are then dug and sealed and a drain is installed to stop any surface water from entering the basement area. Multi-step Systems: All the dirt by the walls till the footer level is dugout, the footer tiles are replaced and the walls are sealed and covered with gravel. A backhoe is used to dig around the outside of the foundation down till the 4 footing. After the wall is completely exposed, the original footer tiles are checked and replaced if required. The wall is then sealed with materials such as tar and plastic to waterproof it.
