How To Tell If You Need a New Roof Examine Roof for: Cracked, torn, balding, or missing shingles Oftentimes these damaged shingles can be easily replaced. Other times this can be a symptom of a much greater problem. Check Chimneys, Vents & Pipes For missing shingles and other damange These areas often show wear and damage much sooner than the rest of the roof. Also, make sure that these vents properly exit the home. Check Gutters & Surrounding ground for shingle granules When shingles become worn, the granules slough off. The granules usually end up in the gutters, or on the surrounding ground. Look for Buckling Shingles And any other irregularities in the roof texture Âny areas where the roof isn't laying flat can be cause for concern. Sagging or buckling roofs can be due to rot, or excess moisture. Check for Leaks In the attic, garage, and inside the home Signs of water damage usually means the roof is damaged and is in need of repair.
