How Does My Safe Work?

HOW DOES YOUR SAFE WORK? Safe security features are designed to protect valuable items, such as jewellery, cash and important paper documents. Choose the right safe for your requirements. HEAVY IMMOBILE The doors are most often composed of metal just like the safe's body. adding extra weight to the safe FIREPROOF A tight fit door and an airtight seal along with a low-heat conductivity provide complete fireproof protection LOW-HEAT CONDUCTIVITY Low-heat conductive metals guarantee protection of valuables for up to four hours in 1,000 celsius direct flames. PROTECTION Usually made of thick steel or another type of hard metal. The body of the safe provides the most protection to the contents inside, THICKNESS Mast safe doors are of equal thickness to the body. INACCESSIBLE HINGES Safes have swinging doors with internal hinges. LOCKING MECHANISM The lock is simple a rod or multiple rods of metal which prevent the door from opening. Locks prevent the door from opening by driving these metal rods into the safe body. THE COMBINATION DIAL Most safe locks are combination locks which use a simple but effective design that has remained relatively unchanged since around 1870. Most combination locks use a wheel pack; a set of wheels that work together to "know' the combination. All wheel packs are all designed around the same principle. 3 WHEEL NOTCH When all the wheels in the wheel pack are in the correct position, their notches align to form a gap. Under the force of its own weight, the fence falls into the gap allowing the safe to be opened. COMBINATION DIAL SPINDLE DRIVE PIN Most combination locks have a combination dial which is attached to a spindle. Attached to the drive cam is a drive pin. As the cam turns, the drive pin eventually makes contact with the small tab on the adjacent wheel called the wheel fly. The spindle runs through several wheels and a drive cam inside the lock. DRIVE CAM The number of wheels in a wheel pack is determined by how many numbers are in the combination one wheel for each number. When you turn the dial, the spindle turns the drive cam. FENCE WHEEL FLY Over the wheels rests a metal bar called When all the wheels in the wheel pack are the fence. The fence stops the lock from being opened. When the notches in all the wheels line up, the fence falls into the gap, allowing the lock to be opened. in the correct position, their notches align to form a gap. Under the force of its own weight, the fence falls into the gap allowing the safe to be opened. safeoptions SAFETY STORAGE SECURITY www.safeoptions.co.uk
