How to choose the ideal survival knife

HOW TO CHOOSE THE ★ IDEAL SURVIVAL KNIFE One of the most important tools for wilderness survival is a quality survival knife. The market for these knives is huge and can be confusing to all but the most die-hard survivalist. To cut down on your research time we have compiled this quick reference guide demonstrating what you need to look for when choosing the perfect survival knife. SURVIVAL SELECTION CRITERIA 5 Sharp Point - Ignore angled, hooked, rounded or straight-cut flat tips. Length - A 4-6 inch blade (9-11 inches overall). 6. Single Edge with Flat Ground Spine ( 90 degree grind). Fixed Blade NOT a Folding Knife. Comfortable, Non-Slip Grip. Thickness - From 5/32" O to 1/4" (3/16 - 4/16 of an inch thick). 2) Solid Handle & Pommel. REASONS FOR SELECTION: 1) LENGTH Small enough to perform intricate tasks such as trap making. Large enough to perform heavier tasks such as splitting logs. SOLID POMMEL The pommel must be strong enough to withstand light duty hammering and pounding. 3 COMFORTABLE GRIP The handle must be comfortable enough for regular use and not cause injury. 4. FIXED BLADE A joint of any kind is a weakness. A fixed blade reduces the chance of breakage. SHARP POINT A sharp (or spear) point is a better defensive shape than any other, due to its ability to stab. 6 Doubled edged blades are more difficult to hammer through thick blocks of wood. A flat edge on the opposing side of the blade is an ideal surface for hammering and for striking Ferro rods on. SINGLE EDGE THICKNESS A blade must be thick enough to withstand tasks such as chopping and prying. A blade with flex is more likely to break. FULL METAL TANG Ensure the tang of the blade (the part inside the handle) is Full Tang. Narrow Tang blades are more SUsceptible to breakage.
