Female Trouble: How Alcohol Abuse is Different for Women Alcohol affects men and women differently. Many people think it's just because men are bigger and can handle their alcohol use. Alcohol is different for women (and usually worse). 6 million American women abuse or are dependent on alcohol. Of women who drink, 1 in 10 have more than 1 drink a day. Which Women Are Abusing Alcohol? A Women is more likely to drink too much if she has any of the f ollowing: The ability to 'hold her liquor Parents or siblings with drinking problems. more than others History of childhood physical or sexual abuse Partner who drinks excessively History of depression Why Alcohol is Worse for Women Women Men Lower body weight.
