The Johnston typeface is redesigned by Eiichi 1979 Kono at Banks & Miles to produce New Johnston, the variant of the original typeface currently used by the London Underground. UNDERGROUND Arial is designed by Retrac 1982 a 10-person team for Monotype 1980 1980 Typography. It has 20 different variations. 1982 Papyrus is designed at the Letraset foundry after being hand-drawn Papyrus over six months with a calligraphy pen and textured paper. 1984 Apple adopts ITC Garamond Light and Garamo Book for the Macintosh release. After several aesthetic tweaks, the font became known as Apple Garamond. 1985 Kris Holmes and Charles Bigelow design Lucida, based on clear and easy-to-read Roman letterforms. Lucida 1990 Microsoft develops Wingdings, a series of fonts comprised of symbols. 1990 1990 1991 Gothic The sans serif font Century Gothic is designed for Monotype Imaging. Comic 1994 Vincent Connare designs Comic Sans for Microsoft. 1999 The website Ban Comic Sans launches as part of a campaign by graphic designers Dave and Holly Combs, who argue that a typeface should Fun match the tone of its text, and that Comic Sans is too irreverent to be taken seriously. The Catul font debuts Google 1999 in the Google logo.
