The Road to Glastonbury How a small English festival became one of the Greatest in the World Held on the day after Jimi Hendrix's death at Worthy Farm, the first festival cost £l with free milk and had just 1,5000 visitors! 1970 1971 In 1971, the first iconic pyramid stage was constructed. Attendance was around 12,000. The Friday had the highest day of rainfall in 45 years. This year also had the first ever laser show. 1982 1990's Glastonbury suffered £50,000 worth of damage and saw 235 arrests due to people looting the 1990 emptying festival site.
