This Heat is Making Us Crazy

This Heat is Making Us CRAZY When the heat gets hot, the eats get weird. Seattle High Temp: 105° F Cool, refreshing soda is perfect for a hot day, right? Not so much in Seattle. Pop's popularity fades as the mercury climbs. But at least we've proven that they drink more than coffee. San Francisco High Temp: 86° F San Franciscans have a knack for being unique, and their ordering habits bear that out. When it's toasty, they avoid the summertime standard – burgers - like the plague, and Chicken Tikki Masala ranks as the most popular dish. Los Angeles High Temp: 82° F Hot and sour soup is far, far more popular in LA when it's already scorching out. Go figure. Denver High Temp: 105° F This year's Rocky Mountain high meant one thing: calzones. Those saucy little pockets were a top five item on the hottest day of the year, way up from 82nd on the coldest. Zz Dallas High Temp: 107° F Everything's bigger more consistent in Texas. The fine folks in Dallas order egg rolls regardless of the temperature. Chicago High Temp: 101° F Chicago – lighter fare is for the weak. We're pretty sure Daniel Burnham said that, and Chicagoans have stuck to it. Like Dallas, Chicago's favorite foods remain stable regardless of weather. Deep-dish pizza consistently makes the cut as one of the 50 most popular dishes. Atlanta High Temp: 104°F General Tso's chicken was the top dawg on Atlanta's hottest day, but slipped all the way to 27th on its coldest. Lesson? Atlantans like to feel really freaking hot. Washington D.C. High Temp: 104° F When the heat gets going in the nation's capital, people look to jalapeño poppers to help them sweat it out, with the item's popularity jumping up more than 100 spots to #48. The rest of us? We use fans. N.Y.C. High Temp: 94° F Hot in New York? Do as the locals do and avoid the fish. Salmon's popularity tanked - dropping over 100 spots- on the hottest day of the year. Boston High Temp: 97° F Sports drinks barely crack the 50 most popular items on the hottest day of the year, yet they ranked as the 18th most popular item on the coldest day. Which leads us to this: hey Boston, you're doing it wrong. Can't stand the heat? Order in.
