Great Apes in UNESCO World Heritage Sites

World Heritage Sites Home to the Great Apes Great apes occur in 16 World Heritage Sites in 11 countries across Africa and Southeast Asia. Chimpanzees, gorillas, bonobos, and orangutans are representative of the World Heritage Convention's commitment to protecting "the most important and significant natural habitats for in situ conservation of biological diversity, including those containing threatened species of outstanding universal value!."
