he sense that we didn't know each other until our families got us to meet. But since we met first, to this day, over five years later, we have shared every moment of our lives with each other. Communication is the basis to love, I believe. Or so it has been in our case at least.
I and him, we both are workaholics. Sundays are the only days we get to spend time together. And except for our honeymoon and a few road trips here and there, we haven't really had a vacation either. On some rare days, when we manage to leave early from our offices, we go out for a fancy dinner at a certain restaurant that he has had his eyes on for some time. He loves his food. To be precise, he loves quality food. He's always reading about so and so dish by one or the other Michelin star chefs. He himself cooks really well in fact.
So here it was, our fifth anniversary, on a weekday. We settled for a nice dinner date at one of the lush hotels in the Capital since our ideas of taking a mini vacation couldn't materialize. But the universe didn't approve of that either as he got stuck with some urgent errands at office. Now here I was, sipping my wine, all alone at home, waiting for my partner, on our anniversary. Not to mention spoilt plans. Sitting in silence, I began to casually ponder upon how our previous anniversaries were.
I came to realize, how at all are gone anniversaries, he had always found a way of making me feel special. I'm not the extraordinarily expressive kind anyway. My ways are rather subtle. But this very moment, I had this urge of making my man feel happy and special and all things good, when he returns home with that face of disappointment. So as I searched through thoughts in my head, I arrived to the idea that I'd pick one of his favourite recipes and cook for him. But that soon reminded me of a little disaster I created, not very long ago. I'm not very good in the kitchen either. And to bring a lame dish in front of a gourmet like him would have made him anything but happy. But there was no way to my man's heart if there was no good food on the table that night.
Quick enough, another idea arrived. I recalled a food delivery outlet that my friend was telling me about the other day. I scrolled through the old conversation with her and found the link to the FooDrool app. I paid a quick visit through their menu and voilà, there it was, the name of the restaurant that we were to visit for dinner. Within minutes I placed an order, keeping in mind his choices, and that's how a dud evening became excited.
The aromatic food arrived hot and well in time.
The bell rang, it was him. His tired eyes gleamed when he saw me standing there in a pretty red dress. As he stepped in, he couldn't move for a minute as he stood in awe of our home lit up with candles and those little lights. He isn't really used to surprises by me. But to my pleasure, he was overwhelmed. Without wasting any more time, I plated the food for us, and told him I had cooked it all, just to add some fun to the night. He got a little skeptical just by the look of the scrumptious dishes on the table. "It's so delicious! You haven't cooked it," he said with sheer confidence as he looked at me from the corner of his eyes. I couldn't keep my goofy face from showing up and we both burst into laughter thereafter.
