G.I. BILL 2.0 & ONLINE EDUCATION OVERVIEW: The G.I. Bill, a.k.a The Servicemen's Readjustment Act of 1944, nearly stalled in Congress as members of the House and Senate debated provisions of the controversial bill. Tie-breaking vote: Rep. John Gibson Georgia Signed into law: President Franklin D. Roosevelt (June 22, 1944) Franklin D. Roosevelt G.I. BILL EFFECTIVE JUNE 1944 TU ON Tuition reduction up to $500 per school year. Right to receive a monthly living allowance while pursuing their studies. Makes provisions for the guarantee by the Federal Government of not to exceed 50% of certain loans made to veterans for the purchase or construction of homes, farms and business properties. Provides for reasonable unemployment allowances payable each week up to a maximum period of one year, to those veterans who are unable to find a job. Established to help war veterans make a living in the aftermath of the Great Depression. 7.8 Million out of 16 milllion World War II veterans had attended an education or training program. -1 million THE POST-9/11 G.I.
