The Fastest Jets in the World

Air Charter Service ACS THE FASTEST JETS 1903 saw the first heavier- than-air human flight from aviation pioneers, The Wright Brothers Then came the jet... 8. F-15 Eagle The F-15 Eagle is a United States jet fighter which has the ability to fly at a speed of 1875 miles per hour. It was designed by McDonnell Douglas in 1967. The F-15 Eagle dominates the skies and is a leader when it comes to aerial combat. With a range of fighting features and technology, the F-15 Eagle is a plane you certainly do not want to come up against in the sky. 7. XB-70 Valkyrie USA The Valkyrie is powered by 6 turbojet engine and is capable of reaching a speed of 2056 miles per hour and had a surface ceiling of 70,000. It is one of the fastest planes in the world. The Valkyrie was created by the United States Air Force as a strategic bomber, however, it was retired very early. 6. Bell X-2 Starbuster 6674 The Bell X-2 was built by the United States as a research aircraft. The US wanted to understand flight characteristics in the Mach 2 - 3 range, such as aerodynamics, the thermal barrier, stability and control. The Bell X2 could reach speeds of 2094 miles per hour, however, in 1955, the jet was taken on a test flight and it lost control and crashed. 5. MiG-25 Foxbat The MiG-25 Foxbat is the fastest fighter jet in the world. It is capable of flying at speeds of 2000 miles per hour. It was created by the Soviet Union to intercept other fighter jets and also to be used for reconnaissance activities. The reconnaissance Mig-25 first flew in 1969 and the interceptor first flew in 1972. It was perfect for high altitude flights, however, it performed terribly in low altitude dog fights as it wasn't manoeuvrable. 4. SR-71 BlackBird The SR-71 BlackBird was developed by Lockheed in the 1960's as a reconnaissance aircraft for the cold war. The highly classified two seater is capable of reaching speeds of 2200 miles per hour, making it one of the fastest jets in the world. Its shape and special paint technology also meant it went unnoticed on radar and it was also made with titanium to cope with the intense heat when travelling at high speed. Sadly, you won't be able to see one flying to day as it was retired in 1998. 3. X-15 N454 The X-15 is one of the fast aeroplanes in the world. The jet can travel up to 4250 miles per hour and was designed to convert pilots into astronauts as it can easily go beyond the 50 mile height. Produced in North America, the X-15 is famous for training Neil Armstrong before he embarked on a mission to the moon. It is still to this day used to train people for space flight. 2. X-43А NASA The X-43A was created by NASA and one of the fastest jets in the world. It can reach a speed of 7000 miles per hour and will travel faster than sound. One extreme feat of engineering concerning this unmanned aircraft is that it can reach its top speed in under 11 seconds. The jet features a new and innovative engine called the scramjet (super combustion ramjet) which doesn't rely on oxygen, ultimately making it much lighter compared to other jet engines. 1. Falcon HTV-2 The Falcon Hypersonic Technology Vehicle 2 is the fastest jet in the world. It can travel over a staggering 13,000 miles per hour. It will get you from Sydney to London in just under 1 hour. The jet was launched on 22nd April 2010 and was designed to respond to terrorist threats at the press of a button. Although it would certainly be a mind-blowing experience to pilot the Falcon HTV-2, it is an unmanned aircraft.
