Testing is not 100% accurate. If a first test is positive, then a second test should be conducted to confirm results. Substances to test for; marijuana, cocaine, opioids (Vicodin), amphetamines, and PCP. Common testing methods include samples of: urine, hair, oral fluids, and sweat. Masking products, designed to defeat a drug test, have limited effectiveness and can often be detected during analysis of the test specimen. Conducting SCHOOL DRUG TESTS The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in 2002 that middle and high school students who participate in competitive extracurricular activities may be tested. It is important to research state laws before initiating a school athlete drug testing program. Random drug tests should be part of a comprehensive program of prevention, intervention, and treatment rather than a stand-alone solution. Recent studies have shown that the overall school life climate is an important factor in the success of drug testing programs.
