Mental -health organizations declined from a peak of 3583 in 1994 to 3131 in 2008. There were 1285 psychiatric beds per million in 1990; in 2008 there were 785. Department of Veterans Affairs medical centers organizations dedicated to mental health were at a high of 1577 in 1990; in 2008 there were 1292.
