This is the official deadline for filing an individual tax return or requesting an extension. Many post offices re- main open late to postmark tax forms sent via the U.S. Postal Service. APRIL TUESDAY 15 RIP April 15 has sadly been marked by quite a few national and worldwide tragedies such as: • 1861 - President Lincoln mobilizes Federal Army (outset of U.S. Civil War) • 1865 - President Lincoln dies from gunshot wound sustained the night before • 1912 - The RMS Titanic sinks in the North Atlantic • 1927 - The Great Mississippi Flood begins • 1941 - Nazi's bomb Belfast, killing 900+ • 1969 - N. Korea shoots down U.S. reconnais- sance plane, killing all 31 on board • 2002 - Air China flight CA129 crashes near Busan S. Korea, killing 128 • 2013 - Boston Marathon bombing kills 3 and According to a nationwide poll by Gallup, tax day was the second most "stressful and worrisome" day of 2011, behind April 27, the day a rash of tornadoes claimed more than 300 lives in the southeastern U.S. injures 264 (Source: Gallup.com) Researchers from the University of Toronto sifted through 30 years of National Highway Traffic Safety Administration re- cords and compared the number of people involved in fatal car crashes on the date income tax was due, to the number involved one week before and one week after the due date.
