Dubai Creek is one part of a series of interactives about the monuments, culture and traditions in the United Arab Emirates produced for gulfnews.com, the on-line edition of Gulf News, a daily English...
language newspaper published from Dubai.
gulfnews.com was reported by Forbes in 2010 to be the number one among the English-language online newspapers in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region and in the UAE.
In the effort to reach a broader audience for this project, it was produced in its entirety on HTML5, JavaScript and CSS3. Making this cultural series accessible almost on any browser or device without the use of plug-ins.
In this project we made a closer look to the Dubai Creek known in Arabic as Khor Dubai – nominated to be a World Heritage Site for 2014 not only because of its location, but also its nature and vitality. We got the main data directly from Rashad Bukhash, Director of Architectural Heritage Department at Dubai Municipality and inhouse research by Mariam Al Serkal.
Dubai Creek has managed to maintain its authenticity and versatility of fusing the past and the present through its trading connections with countries around and beyond the Arabian Gulf, a process that began with the docking of merchant dhows and the flourishing bazaars of silks and spices.
