will react by damaging the lining of the small intestine, along with which sufferers will experience symptoms including bloating, nausea and diarrhoea. Symptoms tend to get worse over time.
A greater percentage of the population (around six percent) are affected by gluten-sensitivity, whom upon consumption of gluten will experience many of the same symptoms as those with coeliac disease, yet often with less severity, and without damage to the small intestine.
It’s safe to say however, that no form of gluten-sensitivity is particularly pleasant and that those afflicted with it will want to stay far, far away from any gluten-containing foods.
Unfortunately, that’s often easier said than done. Despite year-on-year growth in the sale (and production) of gluten-free foods, a lack of understanding about what gluten-free means and how important avoiding it really is, means that activities which many of us take for granted can be a huge struggle to those that have to abstain from gluten.
