BRIGHTON & HOVE Tourism in Brighton is one of the UKs most popular cities with many reasons for people to visit. Below is a closer look at the people who visit Brighton and Hove. The information used has been gathered by interviewing 1,130 visitors! Visitor Types 40% of visitors were staying overnight in commercial or non-commercial accommodation within Brighton & Hove. Day visitors accounted for 60% of all visitors 19% Day visitors from holiday bases outside Brighton & Hove 41% Day visitors from home Average Visitor Groups } 1.97 Adults per group 2.31 people per group 0.34 Children Visitors were fairly evenly distributed between the age categories, but with the highest proportion of visitors falling into the 35-44, 45-54 and 55-64 age categories. T. 19% 81% contained adults only contained at least one child Reasons To Visit: A large majority of visitors described their visit to Brighton & Hove as: Holiday or leisure based visit (73%) Business (2%) Other (3%) Language students (3%) "Special' shopping trip (4%) Visiting friends of relatives (15%) The largest proportion of domestic The three main sources of origin of overseas visitors were: visitors came from homes in: London (20%) Germany The South East (31%) Netherlands 83% Domestic visitors 17% Overseas Visitors USA 41% of all visitors surveyed had not visited Brighton & Hove on a day trip within the last 12 months. Almost two-thirds of all visitors (61%) surveyed had not visited Brighton and Hove on a staying trip within the last 3 years, including a high proportion of day visitors from home (81%) and day visitors on holiday (72%). A high proportion of day visitors from home were repeat visitors. Average trip duration Around half of domestic visitors were on a short break of 2-3 nights, while the majority of overseas visitors were on a longer trip of over 14 nights. 2-3 Nights Domestic 14 Nights + Staying Visitors Overseas The majority of day visitors (77%) spent over 5 hours in Brighton & Hove. 5 Hours + 77% Day of total Visitors 42% of all visitors had travelled to Brighton & Hove by car, while 36% had used the train to get to the city. НОТTEL 59% of all visitors staying overnight in Brighton and Hove had used the internet to book their accommodation. A further 30% had booked directly. HOTEL Just under half (44%) of all visitors did not use any information source prior to their trip. However, 26% received information from family members, friends and colleagues. The average spend per staying visitor per 24 hours (including spend on commercial accommodation) was around £125.56. Day visitors on holiday spent an average of £20.76 per person per day whilst day visitors from home spent an average of £26.14 per person per day. Key Attributes When Visiting: For visitors to Brighton & Hove, the key attributes which make for an excellent trip are that the destination is easy to get to, that it offers plenty to see and do, and that is offers high quality and affordable places to eat and drink. The 6 most popular activities undertaken in Brighton and Hove were: 'Just walking around' nd "Going to a restaurant or place to eat out' 'Visiting the beach' "Shopping' 5% "Visiting a tourist attraction' 6° 'Relaxing / enjoying a view / picnicking etc.' Visitor Reviews In general the 2009 survey found that on nearly all attributes visitors expectations were exceeded. The survey found high levels of satisfaction amongst visitors to Brighton & Hove on the various indicators which together comprise the 'visitor experience'. £0 The negatives WELCOME BAR The areas which received an average score lower than 7 were: The positives 'Ease of parking' "Value for money of parking' F(P) The highest scoring indicators related to: 'Availability of public toilets' 'Feeling of welcome' WELCOME 'Cleanliness of public toilets' 'Easy to get to' ----I 'Rail' 'Good shopping' 'Quality of service at Visitor Information Centre' 'Usefulness of information at Visitor Information Centre' 'Choice of nightlife/evening BAR entertainment' 'Good eating and drinking' Conclusion: With an average score of 8.45, visitor's overall enjoyment of their trip to Brighton & Hove was relatively high. With just over 8 out of 10 people highly likely to recommend the city to friends and relatives and return themselves, the rate of referral and repeat visits was also relatively high.
