MÄRIT!ME PIRACY The estimated annual loss due to piracy worldwide is about $13 to $16 billion. Asia accounted for around 75% of the world's maritime piracy and robbery incidents in 2014. LONG RANGE ACOUSTIC DEVICE (LRAD) 2 ANTI-PIRACY LASER DEVICE a long range acoustic device is a non-lethal anti-piracy device which uses a pain inducing sound beam to drive away the pirates. It produces high-pitched noise that is higher than the tolerance level of an average human being. The anti-piracy laser device uses non-lethal laser beam to provide a visual warning to pirates and distract them temporarily. 4 ELECTRIC SECURE FENCE This non-lethal system consists of an electric fence which surrounds the ship 3 WATER CANNON The water cannon delivers a powerful stream of water to prevent pirates from trying to board the ship. It can also fill the pirates' boats to hinder their manoeuvrability. and prevents pirates from climbing aboard. It is a collapsible fence which can be folded when not in use. 3 4. 5 NETS – BOAT TRAPS 6 SLIPPERY FOAM – MOBILE DENIAL SYSTEM Boat trap is a type of ballistic net which can be used to stop pirates' boats when they come near to a merchant ship. The net ensnares the propellers of the boats which disable the vessel. Slippery foam or anti-traction material is a substance which can be used to make the deck or sides of a ship slippery to prevent pirates from climbing it. | ANTI-PIRACY CURTAIN The system consists of a series of hoses which are dangled on the port and starboard sides of the vessel Sea water is passed through the nozzles at a force of 0.2 Mega Pascal, which makes the hoses go in an TASERS – ELECTRIC SHOCK If pirates do get on board ships, the crew can use tasers as a last resort. These deliver an electric shock that temporarily causes the receiver to lose neuromuscular control unpredictable whirling motion.
