Sir William Lyons Founder of Jaguar THE FOUNDING OF THE JAGUAR AND ITS HERITAGE THROUGH THE AGES 1930'S TO 1940'S: EARLY SUCCESS 1922 Swallow Sidecar William Lyons and William Walmsley, the two motorcycle enthusiasts, formed a partnership and Swallow Sidecar Compay Company was born 1933 The Company name changed to SS Cars Ltd. 1935 Jaguar Bursts onto Motoring Scene. The SS Jaguar was initially a 2.5 Litre MAYFAIR Saloon. Cost: £385 at the time Hotel Prestigious launch event at Mayfair Hotel in London 1939-45 Production was limited to building sidecars for Military BARS 1945 Immediately after World War 2 the company changed its name to Jaguar CarsLimited due to the link between FRY the initials "SS" and Nazi Germany. 1948 The XK legend starts. The Saloon MK-V and a sports car XK-120 came to market.XK-120 is an icon in the history of Motorsports The XK120 achieved the then record speed of 132 miles per hour on Belgium's Ostend-Jabbeke motorway 1950'S-60'S: AN ERA OF RACING SUPREMACY 1951 The winning Begins. The immortal Jaguar XK-C came. Won the Le-Mans Race (1951&1953) 4757 1954 The legend of XK series continued with the XK- D with disc brakes. 1954-57 The XK-140 and the XK-170 emerged. 1956 William Lyons was knighted in recognition of his services to the British car industry KLOS TLK 1957 Jaguar Plant Fire: The blaze caused damage worth £3 million at that time 1957-59 The deluxe saloons Jaguar Mk I and MK II were produced. Could reach top speed of 125miles/hr. 1960 Jaguar bought the Daimler Motor Company. Daimler concentrated on deluxe, comfort oriented cars. 1961-74 The Jaguar-E type was born. About 72,500 E-Type Jaguars were produced between BOYE2 UCE 1961 and 1973. The car had a top speed of 150 mph and could accelerate from 0-60 mph in 7.1 seconds. It was as iconic as the XK series. Enzo Ferrari The most beautiful car ever made 1968 The XJ series debuted, which still exists today. In 1968 the top selling XJ6 entered service and by 1979 over 155,000 had been made 1970'S AND 80 : STRONGER GROWTH AND HIGHER EEDS 1971 The XJ-12 came. It was the only 12 cylinder engine in serial production at that time. Speed upto-140 miles/hr. 1975 The XJ-S model came with a V-12 heart. The XJ-S set a new record for the legendary Cannonball Run challenge in the United States. 1985 The Era ends: Sir William Lyons died in Leamington. 1988 Winner's Podium returned: The XJR-9, with a 7.0-litre engine, was unstoppable in the World Sports Car SIIK Championship, winning 6 of the 11 races and taking both the driver and team trophies. 1990'S AND 2000'S 1990 3 SilkC XJR-12 finished 1st and 2nd at Le-Mans JAGUAR Ford 1991 Financial crunch forced the takeover of Jaguar by Ford 1996 The XK-8 became the fastest selling sports car in the world. 2007 Jaguar-XF The Jaguar XF is a muiti award winning Jaguar, with an innovative design. 2008 A new Company: ΤΛΤΛ Tata Motors of India acquired Jaguar. 2010 The C-X75 electric concept car unveiled at Paris Motor Show 2013 JAGUAR F-TYPE In 2013 Jaguar introduced the all-new F-TYPE. Engineered to deliver sports car driving that's instinctive, intuitive and alive.
